Yellow split pea soup

Ingredients
5 cup Dal, yellow (yellow split peas) (by RUNNERANNE) 16 oz Salt Pork (cured pork) 5 medium (2-1/2" dia) Onions, raw 0.5 stick Butter, unsalted 12 cup (8 fl oz) Water, tap 1 tbsp Savory, ground
Directions
Boil peas, pork, and half of onions. Skim froth. Simmer 1.5 hours. Sauté half onions in butter til soft. Add to soup. Season with salt, pepper, and savory. Simmer 1.5 hours.
