Flossie's Date Squares

Ingredients
2 cups chopped dates1/2 cup white sugar 1 cup water1 3/4 cups rolled oats 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour 3/4 cup butter1/4 tsp baking soda1 cup brown sugar
Directions
Filling: Combine chopped dates, white sugar, and water in a saucepan. Bring to a boil. Simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from heat and cool slightly.

Crumb mixture: Combine rolled oats, flour, baking soda and brown sugar. Rub in butter until crumbly.

Place 1/2 crumb mixture in a greased 9 x 9 inch pan. Press down. Smooth filling on top. Add remaining crumbs on top of filling & level off.

Bake at 375 degrees F for 25-30 minutes. Cool & cut into squares
