Ingredients
Whole chicken (4-5 pounds)Large onion, cut in wedges4 stalks celery cut in half6 cloves minced garlic1 package Lipton's onion soup dry mix1/2 cup white wine
Directions
Remove "inside parts." Fill cavity with onions and celery. Place remaining onions and celery in crock pot. Place chicken on top of veggies, with breasts up. Pour wine over chicken. (I use Sutter Home White Zinfandel because this is what I usually have on hand, but you may prefer a drier white wine.) Spread minced garlic on chicken. Rub dry onion soup package on chicken. Cook 6-8 hours on low.

If you prefer, add more veggies (baby carrots, potatos, etc.).

You can substitute dry onion soup mix with the herbs and seasonings of your choice. Its fun to experiment!

You can also loosen skin with a butter knife and place some seasoning under the skin.

Sometimes I put a little lowfat margerine spread under the skin. If you are concerned about the extra fat, leave it out.

I made it today and it was great. I had a big bird, so it took a little longer to cook. I also took the juices, skimmed off the fat, then add cornstarch, making a sauce. It was yummy, grandkids loved it to. Easy. - 8/4/08

This was wonderful. Filled the whole house with a delicious aroma. I added small red potatoes and will add baby carrots next time. Thanks for posting it. - 10/11/08

I cook a chicken in my crock pot every week, the leftovers make great lunches. I put the chicken in breast DOWN as I've found that keeps the white meat more juicy. I'm definitely trying your recipe today - it sounds really good! - 4/15/12

Awesome recipe! I put the garlic and onion and mushroom soup mix under the skin, which flavored the entire chicken, not just the skin. I also added carrots, celery, and onions underneath the chicken which kept it elevated quite a bit during cooking. I will definitely try this dish again! - 2/21/11

I don't have the lipton onion soup mix, but am still trying it. Also am using the chix broth instead of the wine, Loaded the inside with onion, garlic, and celery. Sprinkled lawrys on and ginger and cilantro...we shall see. - 9/27/09

This is definitely a keeper. Everyone enjoyed this super juicy chicken that was falling off the bone. My only substitutions were to add a few carrots and swap the wine for 100% apple juice. - 6/11/09

I'll never use a whole chicken again. What a mess, dealing with bones was not fun. All the meat fell off, which was great, but then you had to dig for the bones!! - 1/26/09

I used some cheapo white wine I had on hand and only used 1/2 packet of onion soup mix since that's all I had. It was moist and delish. And healthy!! Thanks for sharing. - 8/20/10

Wonderful Wonderful. I made one substitution though, and i don't know how it effected it. I used Sherry instead of white wine. I made a sauce by mixing the juices with corn starch. Yummy. Unfortunately my husband thought the chicken was only ok. Next time: double the garlic and add potatoes - 8/22/08

I happened to have some Viogner at the house, so I was inspired to try this out. It was very good! I added more veggies... they are great in the slow cooker in this tasty broth. - 8/2/08

My family loved it. After reading some of the comments I decided to put veggies on the bottom of the pot to raise the chicken up a bit. It worked the chicken was tender I added carrots, potatoes and onions on the bottom of the pot. Just cut potatoes in 1/2 with skin on - 4/24/14

Very good. Not too salty. Just right. The wine is a great touch and adds real depth to the flavors. My husband even ate the celery! Can't wait to use the leftovers in another dish. - 9/13/09
