Slow Cooker Vegetable Beef Barley Soup

1 lb beef stew meat, diced1 cup each of chopped onion, carrot and celery2 tbsp beef boullion or 1 large cube5 cups water1, 14 oz can tomato sauce2 minced garlic cloves1 tsp tabasco (hot sauce) or less1 tsp worcestershire1/2 cup pearl barley1/4 tsp black pepper1 tsp sugar or splenda (optional)sea salt to taste (optional)
Combine all ingredients in slow cooker and cook on low for 8-10 hours or high for 4-5 hours. This makes a hearty meal. Leave out the hot sauce for the kids if you wish. I add a small squirt of ketchup in my kids' serving and they love it. Enjoy.
