Grandma's Molasses Cookies

2 cups flour1/2 tsp salt2 tsp baking soda1/2 tsp ground cloves1/2 tsp ground ginger1 tsp cinnamon************************1 cup sugar3/4 cup shortening/ or butter1 egg 1/4 cup dark molasses
heat oven to 350
mix all dry ingredients above the line
in a separate bowl mix all wet ingredients under the line ( yes, sugar is a wet ingredient!)
combine dry ingredients to wet mix well
scoop level tablespoon out
roll into balls
roll balls in sugar
bake 8 min
as soon as you take then out of the oven, drop the baking pan about 12 inches from a level surface. this will flatten and crack the cookies
