Simple split peas (dhal)

Ingredients
1 cup green split peas2 cups water1/4 cup onion, diced2 tsp. curry powder2 cloves garlics2 tsp. vegetable oil1/8 tsp. salt1 dash black pepper
Directions
1) Put water to boil in a small pot.
2) Add chopped onions, split peas and curry powder to water. Bring to boil, then reduce heat, keeping mixture slowly bubbling. Cook until split peas are soft and begin to break down.
3) In a small skillet, heat oil. Add cloves of garlic and brown on all sides, being careful not to burn. Quickly and carefully, add garlic and oil to peas and cover. After noise has died down, stir, add salt and pepper, and serve (most traditionally with rice).
Makes 6 1/2 cup servings.
