Lean Scandinavian Beef Stroganoff

1/2 tsp olive oil1 medium onion, quartered or chopped2 tsp minced garlic1.5 lb grilled steak, sliced thinly (leftovers work perfectly!).5 tsp nutmeg1 tsp cardamom1 tsp black pepper1 dash of meat tenderizer (optional)1 envelope Lipton onion soup mix2 C water1/4 C fat free sour cream2 Tbsp whole wheat flour2 C skim milk
1. Heat olive oil in large saucepan. Add sliced onion and garlic. Stir until onions are translucent.
2. Add sliced beef and mushrooms. Brown well.
3. Mix onion soup mix and water together. Add soup to beef mixture and bring to a simmer. Add nutmeg, cardamom, black pepper and tenderizer. Cover and reduce heat. Simmer for 1 hour, or transfer to slow-cooker to simmer for several hours.
4. Just prior to serving, turn up heat to bring stroganoff to a boil. Mix sour cream and flour together in a bowl. Add mixture to beef mixture and stir until lumps are gone.
5. Reduce heat to low simmer. Add milk and simmer, stirring often, until mixture thickens slightly.
6. Serve over rice or whole wheat noodles (not included in nutritional information.)
