Steak and potato barley soup

Ingredients
Beef broth, bouillon, consomme, 4 cup Beef chuck, arm pot roast, 16 oz cut into stew meat pieces*Potato, raw, 3 large chopped (3" to 4-1/4" dia.) Carrots, raw, 1 cup, chopped Onions, raw, 1 slice, large (1/4" thick) Garlic, 1 clove Dried red pepper flakes, 1/2 teasDash liquid smokeBasil, 1/2 teasBarley, pearled, raw, .75 cup
Directions
Brown meat in a saucepan. Add all ingredients except barley to crock pot or stove top pot. Add meat and more water, if desired. Cook all day on medium-low heat. Add barley, depending on packages' instructions. I buy the 10-minute barley and add at the end of cooking. Serve with biscuits.
