Angel Food Cake (Mom's)

1 1/4 cups flour, sifted1 1/2 cups sugar (divided)1 1/2 cups liquid egg white1 1/2 tsp cream of tartar1/4 tsp salt1 1/2 tsp vanilla
Mix flour and 1/2 cup sugar in a small bowl. Place the egg white in a large mixing bowl. Using an electric mixer, whip at high speed for 60 seconds (until frothy). Add cream of tartar, salt and vanilla. Whip at high speed for 2 1/2 minutes. Lower the speed and gradually add 1 cup of sugar. Mix for in minute, scraping bowl occasionally.
Spoon flour/sugar mix 1/4 cup at a time into the egg white. Fold with a spatula until blended. Pour into an ungreased tub pan. Cut through batter to remove air pockets. Bake at 375 degrees for 35 minutes until the cake is brown and dry. Immediately invert. Cool completely then remove from pan.
