1 cup sugarJuice of 1 lemon1 1/2 tablespoons ground gingerFill the remainder of a 2 liter bottle with water
In a 2 liter bottle, combine sugar, ginger, and the juice of one lemon. Fill the rest of the bottle with filtered water.
Allow to sit until the bottle becomes firm, about two days. Strain through a tea strainer to remove the bits and refrigerate. The flavor becomes stronger as it cools.

Did you leave out the fermenting agent? The recipe must contain either yeast or ginger-beer plant (GBS). You can read more about that in the Wikipedia article on ginger beer. My husband makes homemade ginger beer, and we've been reviewing the recipes on here. Thanks for posting one! - 8/24/12
