- Number of Servings: 20
Ingredients
Directions
Bread2 cups warm water2 scant Tablespoons yeast1/2 cup oil1/4 cup sugar (plain bread only requires 2 Tablespoons)1 1/2 t saltAbout 5 cups of flour.8 oz of cream cheese add 1/4 cup of sugar flavored extract to taste.
Put warm water, yeast, oil and sugar into a large mixing bowl. Add as much flour as you can mix with a spoon. Let the bread rest for 10 minutes.
Knead in enough flour to make the dough not sticky.
After the dough has doubled in size divide it into 4 pieces.
Roll each quarter into a rectangle. Put filling in the middle. Make slits about 1 1/2 inches apart down the sides. "Braid" the dough over the top.
Filling:
Microwave 8 oz of cream cheese for about 1 min.
add 1/4 cup of sugar and flavored extract to taste.
(My family likes almond and lemon.)
You can also fill it with canned pie filling or flavored cream cheese and pie filling. We like cream cheese and cherry pie filling.
If this is not clear let me know and I will try to fix it.

Great treat like a French bakery pastry! Makes 4 BIG loaves. I was worried as no temp or time given but cooked it at 350 for probably 40 minutes til crispy on top. No picture but they end up very pretty!!! I made two with the cheese mixture, one jam and one with both! Great for Christmas morning ! - 12/24/15
