My husband, a fan of split pea soup, was SO pleased with this recipe. He didn't even know it was 'good for him'. I liked it very much also. PLUS, it was so EASY!! I will use this recipe again and again. Thank you! - 12/22/07

I'm always looking for tasty, filling, low-fat, low sodium recipes. I made this recipe today and will make it again soon. It's very different from what I grew up thinking of as 'pea soup' - it's more of a vegetable soup, brothy, with lots of split peas - but I liked it and loved the nutrition. - 5/2/11

This was very tasty - to make it smoother I have blended it with some milk. I didn't have the meat, but ham or smoked sausage would have added spice. I will be making again. - 6/24/11

It sounds great, nice and easy... I'd use smoked turkey in it to give it that nice smokey taste that you get from ham... - 6/23/11

I made this with sweet potatoes and added bean sprouts to the mix; it turned out ok but DEFINITELY NEEDS SALT to bring out the falvours. I cooked longer than 8 hrs. but peas still stayed kinda hard/crunchy...not sure if that was suppose to be the texture as this was my first time using split peas. - 6/4/11

Thanks for this variation. Perhaps I'll try the potatoes & chicken. We've substituted chicken for beef stock recently with success so this may work as well! - 4/30/11

Intersting twist to split pea soup.Did you peel off the breaded chicken skin before tossing into the soup? - 4/30/11

Very similar to one I make however I use precooked spicy turkey sausage in it. Soooo yummy!! If you boil the sausage then brown in a non stick pan it reduces the fat even more!!

For thickening as in regular recipe, I recommend that you take some of it out and puree in blender. Add back and turn on high for about 1 half hour. (2 cups pureed should help, the creamer you want the more you blend. Or use that hand blender thing in the soup to get the consistency that you like. - 4/30/11

This soup was quick to throw together. The flavor of all the ingredients were very fresh even after cooking all day. I liked the fact that it wasn't gluey. I will definately make this again. - 2/18/08

tasted good and got good reviews, but it wasn't what I expected. I was hoping for a creamy split pea. This is more like a vegetable soup with split peas in it. - 1/8/08

YUMMY!!! Mine didnt thicken either, maybe tomorrow after its sat for awhile it will, if not next time I will use less water. Like the chicken broth idea too. I used leftover honey baked ham, added black pepper and a little more garlic powder, no parsley and canned carrots. - 12/27/07

I made this overnight. It was easy and tasted good but for some reason it didn't thicken. - 12/21/07
