Ingredients
Directions
For the dough:4 tsp. baking powder1 egg (optional -- we added it)2 c. flour (we used 1 1/2 c white flour and 1/2 c of wheat because we ran out of white flour)3 T. butter (unsalted), softened not melted3/4 c. milk 1% (is what we used)2 T sugarFor filling:1 c. brown sugar3 tsp cinnamon4 T butter, unsalted MeltedFor glaze:1/2 c powdered sugar1/4 c Milk
Mix flour, sugar, salt and baking powder. Then cut butter into the flour mixture. Add Milk and optional egg. Mix until it forms a doughy ball. (If too sticky add a little more flour). On a dry flat surface spread some flour for rolling out the dough. Make it into a rectangle shape.
In another bowl mix brown sugar, melted butter, and cinnamon. Use half this mixture on the bottom of a 9x9 cake pan. The other half is to be spread evenly on the dough. Roll dough into a log. Make your slice markings for your choice of 8 or 16 rolls. You can use a sharp knife to cut with or a piece of thread or string. Place them in the cake pan and put them in a preheated oven for 20-25 minutes at 400 degrees.
While those are baking you can prepare the glaze. First put powder sugar into the bowl and then slowly add the milk a tablespoon at a time until it is the consistency that you choose. We like it a little more on the thick side. More milk means it will be thinner.
When the rolls are done, remove and place the dish on a rack to cool. While they are still warm drizzle the glaze on top. Viola...grab a glass of milk and enjoy!
Serving Size: makes 18 small cinnamon rolls (however we made 8 larger ones)
Number of Servings: 16
