Ham & Asparagus Casserole

1/2 cup bread crumbs3 3/4 cups extra-broad egg noodles2 1/2 cups asparagus, cut into 1/2" pieces1/4 cup flour1/2 tsp dried thyme1 cup skim milk3 cloves garlic, minced1 cup reduced sodium chicken broth2 tsp I can't believe it's not butter light1 medium onion, chopped1 Tbsp lemon juice8 oz lean ham, sliced into 1/2" cubes1/4 cup chopped parsleySalt & pepper, to taste2 Tbsp Parmesan cheese, shredded
1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
2. Cook pasta in lightly salted boiling water per package instructions for al dente, about 7 minutes. Add asparagus and cook 1 additional minute. Drain.
3. In a medium sized bowl, combine the flour, thyme, salt and pepper and mix. Slowly add the milk and broth, stirring with a whisk until well blended.
4. Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Add the onion and cook until slightly softened, about 4 minutes. Add milk mixture and cook until thickened, about 4 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat, and stir in lemon juice.
5. Combine the pasta mixture, milk mixture, ham, and parsley in a large casserole dish and sprinkle with bread crumbs and cheese.
6. Bake 10 - 12 minutes or until filling is bubbly and topping is golden.
