20oz/ 1 bag - Split Peas (dried)10oz - Ham (ham steak or leftover baked ham is PERFECT... and if you have the bone, throw it in there, too!)1.5 cups - Baby Carrots (sliced)1 cup - Red Onion (chopped)2.5 large stalks - Celery (chopped, with leaves) 3 cloves - Garlic (minced)1 tbs - ThymeParsley, .33 cup (remove)Salt and Pepper to taste!8 Cups/ 2 Boxes - Chicken Broth (I like Trader Joe's Low Sodium Organic)
Layer ingredients in slow cooker in the following order, adding the broth last: Peas, Ham/ Ham Bone, Carrots, Onion, Celery, Garlic, Thyme, Parsley, Salt/ Pepper.
DO NOT STIR THE INGREDIENTS!!
Cover and cook on high 4—5 hours or on low 8—10 hours until peas are very soft and ham falls off the bone.
Serving Size: Makes 10 hearty bowls!
