roasted broccoli with garlic

Ingredients
1 large head of broccoli (approx 1.75 lb)3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil1tbsp fresh garlic, minced (optional)1/2 tsp table salt1/2 tsp sugarground black pepper to tastefresh lemon
Directions
adjust oven rack to the lowest position. place large rimmed baking sheet on rack and heat to 500.

to prepare broccoli, cut at juncture of florets and stems. remove the outer peel from stalks and cut into 2"-3" lengths and each length into 1/2" pieces. cut crowns wedges (4-6 depending on the size of the crown). place broccoli in a large bowl.

if using garlic, mince and mix with olive oil. drizzle over broccoli and toss until well coated. sprinkle salt, sugar, and pepper over broccoli and toss to combine.

working quickly, remove baking sheet from oven. carefully transfer broccoli to baking sheet placing flat sides down. return baking sheet to oven and roast until stalks are well browned and tender and florets are slightly browned. 9-11 min. transfer to serving dish and squeeze the juice of half lemon over the top. stir gently. serve immediately.
