Aunt Anna's Strawberry Torte

3 oz packet strawberry or raspberry jello1 c boiling water1 c heavy cream (or 1+ c whipped cream)2 egg whites1 c sugar, divideda dash of salt1 qt strawberries (about 2 baskets)1/2 lb Mother's brand macaroons (2 of the 3 rolls in the 12 oz box)
Dissolve jello packet in boiling water. Let it partially cool. Whip the egg whites until stiff, then whip in 1/2 c sugar. Whip cream until firm. Mix whipped cream and egg mixture. Add remaining 1/2 c sugar. Add jello. Add fruit.
Crush macarroons and press into bottom of 7"x11" or 9"x13" baking pan. Pour strawberry mix on top. Sprinkle more crumbs on top. Chill up to 12 hrs or until set.
