Ingredients
Directions
12 tbsp Shortening, Crisco 1 cup, packed Brown Sugar 1 large Egg, fresh, whole, raw .25 cup Molasses 2.25 cup Flour, white .25 tsp Salt 2 tsp Baking Soda .5 tsp Cloves, ground 1 tsp Cinnamon, ground 1 tsp Ginger, ground 1 tsp Vanilla Extract .25 cup Granulated Sugar
Cream shortening, brown sugar, egg, and vanilla. Thoroughly mix in flour, salt, baking soda, cloves, cinnamon, and ginger. Chill and shape into 72 small balls ( I use a 1 tsp cookie scoop). Dip tops in granulated sugar. Dip your finger in cold water and dab the top of each cookie, the cook book says this aids in making the top crispy and crinkled. Bake on parchment lined or greased cookie sheets at 375 degrees for 6-7 minutes. They should be set, but not hard. I decreased the size of cookie from the original recipe to help me with portion control. The original recipe says to make balls the size of walnuts and bake for 10 -12 minutes.
