Beef Stew

beef steak (chopped)carrots (chopped)potatoes (chopped)onions (sliced/chopped)mushrooms (chopped)cabbage (shredded)1 can of chopped tomatoesgravy granulessalt/pepperboiling water
put a little oil in a big pot, stirfry the beef and onions for about 5 minutes.
add the carrots, onions, mushrooms and cabbage and then fill the pot with boiling water. put the lid on and let it cook on full for 30 minutes then turn down to a small/medium heat for a further 30 minutes. stirring regularly.
when it has cooked for an hour, stir in the can of chopped tomatoes and keep adding gravy granules until it is a nice thick stew.
leave to cook on a medium heat for a further 5 minutes and let cool slightly before serving.
this is nice served over either dumplings, suet pudding or mashed potato and swede.
