Brown Rice Congee Base

Ingredients
Brown rice - short grain is best2 c vegetable broth or 1 veg bouillon cube + 2 c water4 c water
Directions
Put everything in rice cooker and use the porridge setting, if available. Don't use "soup" because this won't get hot enough- instead, if there's no porridge setting, just keep cooking as if rice and check doneness. My rice cooker has a brown rice button, which worked well after "soup" didn't :)

Garnishes: sauteed garlic or garlic powder; grated ginger or ginger powder; soy sauce/tamari to taste; sriracha sauce; toasted sesame oil; chopped scallions; umeboshi plum; etc., etc.
