Ingredients
16 oz dried split peas2 cups diced fully cooked extra lean ham1 cup dice carrots2 cups diced potato3 stalks chopped celery1 medium chopped onion2 cloves minced garlic2 bay leaves1/2 tsp. salt1/2 tsp. pepper1/4 tsp. marjoram1 tsp. liquid smoke5 cups hot water
Directions
In a crock pot, layer in order, starting peas on the bottom (don't stir for the first few hours).

Cover and cook on high.

Remove bay leaves before serving.

If you like a thinner soup it is ready in about 4 to 5 hours. I like it much thicker so I turn it down to low and let it cook another 4 to 5 hours. The serving size is based on this thicker portion.

Also great for freezing and using later.

Makes 9, one cup servings this way.

All I can say is YUM! So simple. I cooked on low for 8 hours. Left out potatoes & celery as I didn't have them on hand . One cup ham. No marjarom. Added two more cups of water mid cooking. Delicious! Garlic powder instead of cloves. A little cayenne too. - 12/11/10
