My whole family really loved these! They are slightly spicy which makes me very happy. I've learned that if I let the bread crumbs sink in for a minute then they are easier to mold. I form them on parchment paper and bake at 350 degrees for about ten minutes. - 2/17/10

This is better than the spicy black bean burger from Chili's, and has fewer calories. Amazing recipe! - 10/17/09

this recipe is fantastic! i made it during my family's monthly "vegetarian week" (skipped the cayenne for the sake of my toddler) and even the world's pickiest husband loved it =) served it with avocado "mayo" and sweet potato fries. i've also used chickpeas instead and it's great too! - 7/3/09

Great! The already made ones are expensive and tasteless. These are just right. Thank you. - 6/7/09

Excellent base recipe. I didn't have breadcrumbs but subbed oatmeal. Added onion and some cumin. Topped with a mayo/Sriracha mix. - 4/4/11

I loved this recipe! I have made a few changes but it is easy and awesome. I no longer buy Vegie Burgers at the store and bring these to cookouts with me! Thank you! - 8/15/09

I just made these for lunch! I can't wait for lunch tomorrow so I can have another one. I added 2 tbsp of salsa to it before cooking. Served on a Sandwich Thin with Laughing Cow Lite Cheese, Lettuce and Tomato - also had some sweet potato fries! Great Lunch! - 8/11/09

Was not sure if I would like these, kind of picky, but not too... they are great. I didn't want spicy... do I used Old Bay Seasoning, onion powder and paprika. LOVE THEM!!!

Coated each with a small amt. of the breadcrumbs, and this made it easier to handle. Didn't have time to chill... FABULOUS! - 2/2/11

We had this for dinner. Even my kids (that HATE black beans) liked them. They had a hard time keeping them together, but my husband and I didn't. very tasty and FILLING. - 1/28/11

Delicious! I added some onion and red pepper. Yum. For those who had a hard time holding burgers together, I think mashing the beans more helps. I added a little extra bread too to help. I did mine in a skillet on med-low heat and as they heated they became more firm and stuck together better. - 3/2/10

These were incredibly easy to prepare, inexpensive to shop for, they held their shape while grilling, and were very tasty! My calorie count was just a little higher than listed here at 114 per burger, but still a really great dinner solution. Also made a great leftover lunch today! - 2/24/10

I love this recipe because it is so easy and tastes great! I sear them in the frying pan and then bake them for 10 minutes in oven. For my family, I add cheese before putting in the oven so it melts. - 2/19/10

very good! need to add more seasoning though.
no problem keeping the patty together.
used pureed avocado for topping. - 1/4/10

They would have tasted great if they actully stayed together. Maybe I did something wrong but I'm not sure what it was - 11/17/09

It was perfect! I used a sweet red pepper instead of a green pepper, and it was great. They were a bit gooey, so I needed to add a little bit more of the bread crumbs! Great Recipe! - 7/12/09

yum... even my meat-eating husband liked these! I ran out of bread crumbs, so I used a little crushed up saltine crackers, probably a little more than 1/4 cup, but it worked out! - 3/5/10

I added half a cooked onion, and topped it with ketchup AND a piece of cheese, yet the recipe still lacked flavor. I used the egg and it came apart. I won't make this again. - 7/31/09

Okay I must admit that when I was making the mix I was skeptical....I added a little curry and I may lessen the chili powder next time. But I made them last night and had it for lunch. I topped the burger with slices of tomatoes, green and red sweet bell peppers and romaine lettuce Great!!!!! - 7/28/09

This was great and super easy! I made three large patties so the burger could be a stand-alone dinner. Enjoyed it on a lightly toasted potato bun with a slice of cheddar and just a little ketchup and light mayo. Thanks for sharing this! - 7/13/09
