Unfried refried beans

Ingredients
Directions
Garlic, 5 cloves (remove)Onions, raw, 1 halvedmezzetta deli sliced jalapeno peppers - 1/4 cup, 1 serving (remove)Water, tap, 9 cup (8 fl oz) (remove)3 cups dried pinto beansSalt, 2.5 tsp (remove)Pepper, black, 1.75 tsp (remove)*Cumin seed, .12 tsp (remove)
Rinse and drain beans.
Combine all ingredients in crock pot.
Cook on high for 8 hours, adding more water if needed.
Once the beans have cooked, strain them, and reserve the liquid. Mash the beans with a potato masher, adding the reserved water as needed to attain desired consistency.
I also like to make these and NOT mash them, and am left with tasty whole pinto beans as a great side. Also, these freeze and re-heat well, just add a bit more water to help loosen them up.
