Split Pea Soup with Ham

Ingredients
1 bag of dried split peas12 C water1/4 C butter2 C grated carrots1 C finely chopped onion1 C chopped hamsalt and pepper to tast
Directions
Rinse peas
Add water, peas, carrots, onion and butter to large pot.
Bring to boil and boil for 30 minutes
Reduce heat.
Add ham and any seasonings.
Simmer for 30 more minutes.
For smooth soup, put in blender or use hand held blender.
