Carmelized Onion and Garlic "Cream" Sauce

Ingredients
2 tbsp butter2 cups diced onion (diced small)1/2 tsp granulated sugar (helps the onions carmelize)4 cups non fat milk1/4 cup cornstarch3 tbsp cold water2 tsp minced garlic or 1 tsp granulated garlic (to taste)salt and pepper to taste
Directions
Melt butter in pan. Add chopped onion and saute until translucent. Add granulated sugar which assists the onions in carmelizing. Continue to cook until onions are carmelized. Add garlic, salt and pepper and stir. Pour in milk, and heat through. Using immersion blender (or pour into blender), puree mixture. In a separate bowl, mix cornstarch and cold water and add to mixture over medium heat and allow to thicken to desired consistency.
