Tortilla Soup Base

1 dried pasilla chile14.5 oz can fire roassted tomatoes1 T olive oil1 medium white onion (212g)3 garlic cloves2 qt chicken broth1 T fresh cilantro1 t saltOptional Ingredients (not included in nutritional information):4 shredded chicken breastsdiced avocado4 c broken tortilla chipsshredded mexican cheeselime wedges
Toast chile over open flame for a few seconds. Break into pieces and put in a blender with the tomatoes. Heat oil and saute onion and garlic til golden. Add to blender and process until smooth.
Return contents of blender to pan and simmer until slightly thickened. Add broth and cilantro. Reduce heat and simmer 15 minutes. Season with salt and divide evenly into 4 servings.
Add optional ingredients to bowls.
