My sister or I make our version of this every Thanksgiving and Christmas. The dressing is spread on the top and sugar sprinkled over it to keep the lettuce fresh and crisp. it does not sink into the salad at all. I made this 4 days in advance and it was as fresh tasting as if I had just made it. - 1/2/15

This was really good! We were out of carrots and didn't use the cheese but still very good and easy salad. The dressing stayed on top until we mixed it in right before serving. Delicious! - 6/15/11

this sounds excellent!. But if you put the dressing over the salad greens for that amount of time, won't they wilt to be so soggy as to be unappetizing? I plan to make it tomorrow, but I will eat it right away. - 6/21/10

Since the dressing is relatively thick it does not sink down to the greens. You apply it like a frosting and it stays on the top untl you serve it . Never had any complaints and have served it for years.
