Seared Brussels Sprouts

1 lb brussels sprouts3-4 T olive oilSalt, pepper, garlic powder to taste
Trim ends of brussels sprouts and cut in half lengthwise.
Heat oil a large, heavy skillet, preferably cast iron, over medium-high heat. When oil is just short of smoking, place sprouts cut side down in the oil. Reduce heat to medium, and sear on one side until nicely browned, about 3 minutes. Turn sprouts over and cook on other side until nicely browned and tender, 3-5 minutes. Some of the leaves can be charred dark brown or black. Remove from heat and season to taste.
