Ethna's Date Nut Loaf

Ingredients
2 3/4 C flour1 C Sugar 1 tsp baking sodapinch salt 1 1/2 C boiling water1 egg slightly beaten1 pkg chopped dates ~1C2 TBSP Crisco1 tsp vanilla1 tsp cinnamon1C chopped walnuts
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 - 375 grease loaf pan and set aside.
Boil water pour over dates, add soda, vanilla set to cool.
Mix flour, sugar, salt; slowly add to cooled date mixture a little at a time; add Nuts last.
Pour into pan and bake. Check center for doneness when knife comes out clean. Let cool. Cut loaf in half lengthwise, then slice each half into 12 slices.
