Ingredients
* *Turkey, Ground turkey, 93% lean, 16 oz * White Rice, short grain, 2 cup (I do use brown rice when i have it on hand) * Canned Tomatoes, 1 can * Salsa, 1 cup * Smoked sausage, 1 sausage * Onions, raw, 1 cup, chopped * Garlic, 6 cloves
Directions
Brown ground turkey. While turkey is browning mince garlic and dice onions, open the tomatoes and measure the salsa and rice. Once turkey is browned add onions, let cook for 3-5 minutes or translucent then add the garlic and cook for another minute. Add tomatoes and salsa. Using the tomatoes can pour in 2-4 cans of water (to cook the rice) and stir til combined. Add rice stir and cook per rice directions. For the smoked sausage you can do one of two things. You can dice it up and throw it in with the onions or you can fry it on the side. If you do it on the side you get the fat out and can drain it on paper towels to reduce the fat content. I cook it on the side unless I'm in a hurry. You can add any seasonings that sound good, depending on my mood I may add basil, oregano, rosemary, thyme, apple cider vinegar at the same time I add the garlic. The vinegar helps bring out the natural salt in everything so you don't have to add more. You only need a tbsp and you won't even taste it, I promise!
