Homemade Vegan Breakfast Sausage Patties

1/2 c tvp1/2 c boiling water1/2 c whole wheat flour1/4 c oat or wheat bran1 tbsp nutritional yeast1 tsp garlic powder1/2 tsp crushed sage1/2 tsp fennel seeds1/4 tsp black pepper1/4 tsp salt1/8 teaspoon cayenne1 tbsp ground flax seeds, optional1/4 c water1/2 tsp liquid smoke3 tbsp soy sauce1 tsp maple syrup1/4 tsp black strap molassesoil for frying
Stir together tvp and boiling water and set aside to soak for 5 minutes.
Add flour, bran, and dry spices; stir to incorporate. In a measuring cup, measure out water; add liquid smoke directly to the cup and stir (this way the smoke will be evenly distributed). Add water mixture and remaining liquids to dry; mix well. With your hands, form mixture into 2″ balls and flatten slightly into patties.
Fry in oil in an uncovered frying pan on medium heat, about 2 minutes per side (or til browned).
