Ingredients
Directions
1 pound of 85/15 ground beef (room temp)1 large red onion (sliced in ringlets)4 slices of sharp white cheddar cheese2 tablespoons of EVOO8 slices of Sara Lee 45 calorie whole wheat breadSalt and Pepper
Make loose thin patties out of your ground beef.
Sprinkle salt and pepper on both sides of your patties.
Prepare your onions. Preheat skillet and add 1 tsp of EVOO. Sautee the onions until they are caramalized. Approximately 20 minutes. Stirring occasionally. Either set the skillet aside or put the onions in a bowl for later if you need to use the same skillet for the burgers.
Preheat a non stick skillet on medium heat for approx. 4-5 minutes. Add olive oil to the pan.
Place the burgers as close to the middle of the pan as possible.
Don't touch them for approx. 2 minutes. Flip them over and again don't touch for approx. 2 min. or so.
When the juices run clear, remove them from the pan and lay them on a paper towel.
Put your onions back in the pan on the burner, into 4 little burger sized piles.
Place the burgers on top of the onions and put a slice of the cheese on each of the burgers. Let the cheese melt for about 5 minutes.
The onions being on the bottom send the onion flavor throughout the burger.
Toast your bread then assemble the burgers.
These are good as they are, however you can dress them anyway you like. Nutritional value for listed ingredients only.
Makes 4 quarter pound burgers.
