Serving size, by Indian standards ought to be 2.
We have this thing, half katori / cup for 2 people.
But then you never know the size of the other person's gizzard!

    Or mine! - 3/28/12

I cooked the lentils in my crock pot on low. It was great! Threw everything in the pot, turned it on low and went shopping all day. - 1/20/12

This was an excellent dish! I really enjoy Indian food, but usually find it to spicy. It was nice to be able to adjust the heat. I'll definitely make this again! - 10/3/08

Tried it: the lemony taste and the cilantro work very well together. For me it's a nice basis recipe: one can add vegetables or even protein sources to taste and experiment with further spices. - 9/21/08

Sounds good, but ... what is the technical definition of "splutter"?

Too bland and unexciting for my taste. I like a spice blend with more punch. - 9/19/08

Splutter is to cook the mustard seeds to the point that they start to "pop"
The only thing I would correct is that add the mustard seeds and have them start "popping" and then add the cumin seeds
And yellow lentils are called Toor Dal - you find this at an Indian/Chinese/African-American store - 9/19/08

Splutter? I would make this recipe just to see what happens when one "splutters," but the meal looks really good. I will make this when my granddaughters come to visit. I'm sure they would like it, too. - 9/19/08
