German Chocolate Cake

Ingredients
Cake:1 pkg (4 oz) BAKER'S German Chocolate1/2 C boiling water2 sticks butter2 C sugar4 eggs, separated1 tsp vanilla2 C flour1 tsp baking soda1/2 tsp salt1 C buttermilkTopping:1 C evaporated milk1 C sugar3 slightly beaten egg yolks1/2 C butter1 tsp vanilla1 1/3 C coconut1 C pecans, chopped
Directions
Preheat oven to 350. Line 3 9 inch round pans or 1 15X 11 pan with wax paper.
Melt chocolate in boiling water, cool. Cream butter and sugar. Beat in egg yolks. Stir in vanilla and chocolate and set aside. Mix flour, soda, salt. Beat flour mixtureinto chocolate mixture, alternating with buttermilk. Beat egg whites until they forms stiff peaks. Fold into batter. Pour into pans. Bake 30 minutes. Cool 15 minutes in pan and then cool on rack. Prepare topping. Combine milk, sugar, egg yolks, butter and vanilla in a saucepan. Cook and stir over medium heat until thickened. Remove from heat and stir in coconut and nuts. Cool until thick enough to spread. Spread onto cake.
