Ingredients
Directions
12 c chicken broth (i made my own)4lb stewing chicken, cooked, skinned and deboned1/2 c barley1c chopped carrots2c chopped celery1c chopped onion1 box Ronzoni Smart Taste wheat Rotini
Slow cooker the chicken, onion, celery & carrots. When the chicken is done let it cool then bone it. I put the stock in the frig overnight and let the fat harden so I can remove it.
Next day I boil the stock with the barley until it is almost soft then add the rotini, then bring back to a boil for 10 minutes and add the chicken back in.. let simmer for 15 minutes and it's ready to serve.
I like to add dried garlic slices & chives to crock pot stock but this a personal preference
makes 7 or 8 servings, maybe more depending on your preferred serving size.
The sodium count is Sparks and they probably figure it is canned chicken stock, mine is not.
