Baked pork chops with apples

2 red-skinned apples.5 tbsp sugarPinch ground cinnamon2 boneless pork chops, about 3/4 inch thicksalt and pepper1 tbsp butter, cut into small pieces
Preheat oven to 375. Line 8-inch square baking dish with aluminum foil and set aside. Cut and core the apples into 1/2-inch-thick slices. Pile the slices into the baking dish. Sprinkle sugar and cinnamon evenly over the apples. Generously sprinkle both sides of chops with salt and pepper. Tuck the chops into the apples, then scatter the butter pieces over the tops of the chops and apples. Cover the dish with more foil.
Bake for 40 minutes. Remove foil and then cook until the chops are lightly browned and the apples are tender, about 20 minutes longer. Serve pork chops with apples and accumulated juices on the side.
