In a pan, marinate chicken in vinegar, oil, garlic, thyme, 1 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp pepper. Let sit in fridge for 40 min. Rotate every 10 minutes. Grill chicken until cooked, but not dry, and thinly slice.
Combine lettuce with vinaigrette in a large bowl.
Evenly spread lettuce across a large platter. In rows on top of lettuce, arrange bacon, chicken, cheddar, tomato, avocado
