Cheddar Pear Pie

Ingredients
4 large ripe pears, peeled & thinly sliced1 tablespoon cornstarch1/3 cup sugar1/8 teaspoon salt1 unbaked pastry crust (9 inches)TOPPING:1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese1/2 cup flour1/4 cup melted margarine1/4 cup sugar1/4 teaspoon salt
Directions
In a bowl, combine pears, sugar, cornstarch and salt. Pour into crust. Combine topping ingredients until crumbly; sprinkle over filling. Bake at 425 degrees for 25-35 minutes or until crust is golden and cheese is melted. Cool on a wire rack for 10 minutes. Serve warm. Store leftovers in the refrigerator. Yields 1 pie.

    I have made this recipe when our pear tree produces, about mid August. It is a family favorite. No one can believe that it is not an apple pie...or that the crumb topping contains cheese! I was floored to see that each serving was just 306 calories. - 8/25/10
