Sausage & Cabbage Soup

Ingredients
1 slice bacon, cut into 1/2" pieces1 small yellow onion, finely diced 3 cloves garlic, smashed1 small head cabbage, quartered and sliced into 1" ribbons4 small potatoes, cut into 3/4" cubes2 small turnips, cut into 1/2" cubes8 cups chicken stock or water or a combo or similar2 polish sausage, cut in half lengthwise and then sliced1/2 c. half and half cream
Directions
Place soup pot over low flame. Add bacon. Let render a bit, then add onion and garlic. Cook till onion is translucent and bacon is beginning to turn golden, then add cabbage.

Cook, stirring occasionally, till cabbage is beginning to soften. Add stock and turn up the flame to bring to a rolling boil.

Add potatoes/turnips and sausage and reduce heat to medium. Simmer gently until potatoes are cooked through.

Before serving, add half and half (temper by first adding to a cup or so of soup broth, then adding to main soup pot). Season with salt and pepper to taste.
