Ingredients
4 large ripe tomatoes, to yield about 4 cups, chopped1/4 cup good extra-virgin olive oil1/4 cup (packed) finely sliced fresh basil leaves1/4 teaspoon coarse sea salt, or to taste
Directions
Core the tomatoes. Cut the tomatoes crosswise in half and squeeze out the seeds. Chop the tomatoes. Transfer to a large bowl and add basil.

Place the olive oil in a small saucepan over medium-low heat. Heat the oil until it shimmers but doesn't bubble or smoke.

Quickly but carefully pour the warm olive oil over the tomatoes (careful: the oil may spatter). Serve right away, over pasta if desired.

Might be a good idea to have the photograph reflect the ingredients in the recipe? Pictured is a Roma tomato (the type you're not supposed to use), garlic, peppercorns&thyme, none of which are in this recipe, the serving suggestion photographed is Italian bread, not pasta. Not a basil leaf in sight! - 7/14/13

I don't know why everyone is so concerned about the picture? Really? Is the recipe good or not that should be your review? The ingredients sounds wonderful to me and would love to try it! - 7/14/13

So simple and delicious. I used cherry tomatoes, added a little artichoke hearts and a sprinkle of parmesan. I could eat this every day. - 8/31/13

I'm all for being a smartass (I really am) but nitpicking on the picture isn't exactly helpful. Besides, it's relevant enough, as it's a picture of bruschetta and this recipe is essentially a simplified version of that. It can be eaten on bread as well and modified accordingly w/ those ingredients - 7/14/13

yummy over cold pasta as a salad - 7/14/13

Why not Roma tomatoes? Too funny, you say no Roma and there is one in the picture. I would eat this on calorie free noodles.

My picture shows the pasta, Roma Tomatoes and Basil leaves. Being Italian, I only use Roma Tomatoes in my sauces. I made this and it was very easy. I used Avocado Oil, diced onions, garlic and mushrooms and poured over pasta. It was very good and I have an abundance of fresh tomatoes. - 8/31/13

I like sauces like this with no cooking in the summer. And I've discovered hemp seeds sprinkled on top make a very nice addition to the ingredients you mentioned. I'd like some onion with it, too. And roasted garlic. - 7/14/13

I used cherry tomato. Replaced noodles with spaghetti squash and added some fresh made basil pesto. quick easy low cal lunch. May try adding a chicken breast to it for protein. - 10/3/13

I heated minced garlic and finely chopped onions in the oil, and I used all parts of the tomato. Was great over whole wheat pasta! - 9/1/13

Why do you throw away the seeds and juice???? That jell around the seeds is the most flavorful and nutritious part of the tomato. - 8/31/13

What is so great about sparkrecipes, when you forward them to print, there is NO picture. Just the recipe ; Problem solved! Enjoy! - 8/31/13

i rate this recipe high. My basil hasn't come up yet and I don't have enough cherry tomatoes right now. I can't eat a lot of foods and i have to eat gluten free.

I gain weight when I eat food I have allergies to. I get really sick too. I'm losing weight gradually. Best way to loose. - 7/15/13

A lot of the photos for the recipes here are "stock" photos. I know, because I have sent inquiries about photos in relation to the recipes offered. There was a great chocolate lovers recipe collection, but the picture of a slice of creamy chocolate pie did not match any of the recipes. So I aske - 7/14/13

Thank you for this! I was just diagnosed with a bunch of food allergies (mainly spices, including garlic and onion) and have been looking for recipes to replace my canned and bottled sauces. This sounds perfect! - 3/18/13

Your pictures seldom reflect your recipes! Recipe here says "squeeze out the seeds and the picture shows seeds, plus a variety of ingredients not mentioned in the recipe? - 8/31/13

I toss these ingredients plus garlic, salt, peppers, etc together often and eat on low fat crackers and on chicken breasts. Wehave a tomato garden so we're always eating like this. Thanks for sharing! - 7/14/13
