Butternut squash gratin

Ingredients
1/2 stick butter1 butternut squash, diced into 1/2" pieces2 medium onions1 tsp sugar1/2 tsp each salt & pepper3/4 c chicken broth2 c breadcrumbs (fresh)4 oz sharp cheddar cheese, shredded1 Tbsp rosemary1/2 tsp dried thyme
Directions
Melt butter, saute onions 8 min. Add squash, saute 4 min. Add spices, saute 5 minutes. Put in oiled baking pan, add chicken broth, bake at 350 for 45 min. Remove from oven (mixture can be stored for a day until finishing steps).
Make topping - mix breadcrumbs, cheese & herbs. Put on top of squash mixture. Bake at 400 for 30 min.
