Ingredients
1 (16 oz.) bag frozen dark sweet pitted (unsweetened) cherries1 tablespoon cornstarch1 1/2 tablespoons lemon juice2 teaspoons water1/8 tsp. ground nutmeg1/2 cup regular oats, uncooked1/4 cup brown sugar2 tablespoons flour2 tablespoons light unsalted butter
Directions
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Place the frozen cherries in a shallow 1-quart baking dish, sprayed with nonstick spray. Mix the cornstarch, lemon juice, water and nutmeg in a small bowl and stir well. Pour this mixture over the cherries, stirring to coat.
Combine the oats, brown sugar and flour in a small bowl. Cut in the butter with a pastry knife (I like to pinch it all together with my fingers) until resembled a coarse meal. Sprinkle evenly over the cherries. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, or until top is lightly browned and the fruit is bubbly.

The cherries I used were tart, so I added some fresh cut peaches to the recipe. A great way to add a bit of sweetness without added sugar. My family enjoyed this easy make dessert.

I am sorry to say that this was a huge disappointment. Of 6 of us...no one liked it. I wished I had simply used canned cherry pie filling and the topping. It had a strange flavor that was not cherry like at all. - 2/24/13

I used Splenda brown sugar and whole wheat flour. There were NO leftovers! The family loved it. - 6/8/09
