Ingredients
1 cup Split Peas2 cups of water (or veggie broth).5 cup Onions, raw, chopped1 tbsp Olive Oil1 tsp Minced Garlic1 tsp Salt.5 tsp Pepper, black.5 tsp Ground Cumin seed
Directions
Add olive oil to the pot and heat. Once heated added chopped onions and garlic. Cook for about 3 mins. Add spices and mix well. Add peas and water. The peas should be well covered in water. Bring back to a boil. Reduce heat to low and cook for about 30 more minutes. Keep your eye on it. Stir every 5 - 10 minutes. You will want to taste one pea to make sure it's cooked all the way. Pay attention to the water consumption too. You don't want it to burn. Split peas break down and get thick so they can stick to the bottom of the pot easily and burn. When done it should be the consistency of a thick soup, almost like Chili. It will get thicker as it cools as well.
