Ingredients
# Lentils, 2 cups # Onions, raw, 2 medium (2-1/2" dia) # Garlic, 3 cloves (remove)# Turmeric, ground, 2 tsp # Cumin, ground, 2 tbsp # Corriander, ground , 2 tsp# Soy sauce (tamari), 3 tbsp # Water, tap, 4 cup (8 fl oz) # fresh grated ginger, 1 tbsp# juice of half a lemon# bay leaf (optional)
Directions
Chop the onion roughly and fry in a pot for 2-3 minutes. Add the lentils and turmeric, and sitir. Then add the water, ginger and a bay leaf if you have lying around. Bring the water to the boil then allow to simmer for about 20 minutes. In the meanwhile heat the cumin and and coriander in a small pan until aromatic (this will take about a minute- be careful not to burn the spices). Add the spices to the lentil mixture as well as the lemon juice and soy sauce and garlic (crushed or thinkly sliced).

Serve over biryani or eat as a snack in the day
