Tomato Rice Bisque

Saute onions in oil 5 minutes over medium heat. Add rice, chicken broth (or bouillon and water to equal the broth), 1 small bay leaf, 1 tsp. dried basil, 1 tsp. black pepper. Simmer 15 minutes. Add tomatoes, tomato paste and sugar. Stir well. Cover and simmer 45 minutes. Serves 6
