Grated Rind and juice of One Orange1 Cup Shortening (I use 3/4 Cup Butter and they're better I think) & preferably butter & very soft2 1/2 Cups Sugar2 Eggs1 Cup Sour Milk2 Level tsp. Baking Soda (be sure they're level)3/4 tsp. Salt (or there-a-bouts)5 Cups FlourIcing1 Box Powder Sugar1/2 to 1 Stick of ButterAdd Orange Juice and blend to spreading Consistency
Cream Shortening, Sugar, & Eggs, Add Juice, Rind & Salt. Add Milk & Soda then Flour.
I Like to stir them up & leave in refrigerator over nite.
Drop by spoonfuls. Recipe should make 6 Dozen if dropped by teaspoon.
Bake at 350 for about 12 minutes or until they puff up and turn a light golden color.
Icing
1 Box Powder Sugar
1/2 to 1 Stick of Butter
Add Orange Juice and blend to spreading Consistency
