Basmati rice with sweet onion and summer herbs

1 1/2 c basmati rice (about 10 ounces)2 tbsp butter2 c chopped sweet onions2 1/2 c water1 1/2 tsp salt3 tbsp chopped italian parsley2 tbsp chopped fresh dill2 tbsp chopped tarragon
Rinse rice under cold water until water runs clear; set aside. Melt butter in large suacepan over medium high heat. Add onions, saute until translucent, about 5 mintues. Add rice, 2 1/2 cups water and 1 1/2 tsp salt; bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, cover and cook until rice is tender, about 15 mintues. remove from heat and let stand, covered, 10 mintues. Stir in herbs. Season with pepper and more salt if desired. Transfer to bowl and serve.
