Heat oil in a Fry Daddy, deep fryer, or heavy deep cast iron pan. In a bowl, mix together the protein powder, egg, sour cream, syrup, salt, and 3/4 cup of the water or soy milk. Add more water or soy milk until you get a texture like a very thick frosting. If you need more water to get that texture, add more--the amount you need it will depend on the protein powder used.
Spoon the batter into a cookie press or pastry bag with a large fluted tip. Squeeze the batter into the oil in 4" logs, deep fry until golden brown. Drain on paper towels. While still warm, sprinkle with sweetener and cinnamon.
