Ingredients
10 cups of apples1/4 cup granulated sugar (taste the apples. If they are already sweet, then skip the sugar)1 Tbs of apple pie spice**You can make your own spice mixture of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and allspice. Use whatever you like. Ideas are below:Apple Pie Spice #11 Tbsp. ground cinnamon1 1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg1 tsp. ground allspice1/4 tsp. ground clovesCombine all ingredients and seal in ziploc or vacuum seal bag (or jar).Apple Pie Spice #21/4 cup cinnamon2 teaspoons nutmeg1 teaspoon allspice1 teaspoon ground gingerCombine all ingredients and seal in ziploc or vacuum seal bag (or jar).Apple Pie Spice #34 parts cinnamon2 parts nutmeg1 part cardamomCombine all ingredients and seal in ziploc or vacuum seal bag (or jar).
Directions
Wash and cut each apple into quarters. Don't bother peeling or coring them.
Place 1/2 cup of water with the apples, into your slow cooker.
Add desired spices.

Cook at low for 6-8 hours.

Using a food mill (trust me, this is the best kitchen gadget you'll invest in), spoon apples and let the food mill do the rest.

Applesauce is a healthy alternative in baking (using less sugar) and makes baked good moist. Stir applesauce into yogurt or oatmeal as a healthy sweetener.

This was a great recipe. I thought I could use a blender to combine but the skins and seeds didn't puree, so I had to strain it. I'd recommend if you don't have a food mill core the apples at least. Besides logistics it was the most delicious homemade apple sauce I've ever had! - 9/23/10

This "home made" apple sauce is EXCELLENT; you don't have to watch it much except to stir occasionally. I made 2nd batch today & is just as good. Even hubby liked it, and OH the aroma in the house. Good, Good, Good. - 10/5/08

Thank you for posting your positive comments. I edited the recipe to show options for making your own apple pie spice (why buy it, when it's cheaper to make your own!)
