No-Stock Vegetable Soup

Ingredients
12 baby carrots, sliced1 sweet potato, cubed1/2 onion, coarsley chopped1/4 cup dried parsley4 garlic cloves2 tbsp salt1 tsp black pepper1 tsp ground turmeric1 cup oatmeal12 chestnuts (optional)
Directions
Combine all ingredients except oats and chestnuts in rice cooker or pot, cover with water to about an inch above the vegetables (or more for a thinner soup), and cook until vegetables reach desired tenderness. Add oats and chestnuts for last five minutes.
